Ukraine has gained unique combat experience and knowledge that made it possible to form its own distinct school of firearms training. The modern Ukrainian school is the quintessence of the best practices of different eras and approaches — from the classical Soviet shooting doctrine to modern NATO methodologies proven in real combat. Ukrainian soldiers have applied these techniques against a real opponent — both live enemy forces and robotic systems — and therefore have every right to develop an effective, combat-validated training system. Based on this experience, a unique, multi-level instructional and training manual has been created to shape the modern shooter. The program covers key characteristics and skills necessary for effective performance in combat: Shooting accuracy — the ability to reliably hit the target. Target acquisition speed — quick and intuitive aiming. Rapid-fire speed — the shooting tempo and the ability to maintain effective fire. Maneuver — combining shooter movement with fire maneuver to gain tactical advantage. Shooting endurance — maintaining effectiveness under physical load and stress. Application of shooting theory and environmental factors — understanding ballistics, the effects of wind, terrain, lighting, and environmental conditions. We are pleased to present this unique, world-class training manual, where you will find comprehensive answers to all key questions related to firearms proficiency. Introducing an exclusive master class by Zulu, a leading military expert and instructor of the PSDinfo Academy team, who combines real combat experience with advanced training methodologies.

Topic 1. Introduction to the Start of Training — Weapon Familiarization Procedure

Topic 1. Introduction to the Start of Training — Weapon Familiarization Procedure

Ukraine has gained a unique wealth of combat experience and knowledge that has laid the foundation for its own school of firearms training. This Ukrainian School of Firearms Training represents the essence of the finest practices drawn from different eras and methodologies — from the classical Soviet marksmanship tradition to modern NATO doctrines, all tested and proven through sweat and blood on the battlefield. Ukrainian soldiers have applied this knowledge in real combat against a real enemy — both human forces and robotic systems — and therefore have every right to establish their own training system. The course instructor firmly believes that the term “Ukrainian School of Firearms Training” will, in time, become a recognized global brand. Having its own school allows Ukraine to integrate national experience and unique characteristics, to refine and codify the most effective methods, and to cultivate a new generation of highly skilled marksmen.

Topic 2. The Eight Fundamentals of Accurate Shooting

Topic 2. The Eight Fundamentals of Accurate Shooting

In this course, we begin with the most important characteristic — shooting accuracy. Accuracy is based on executing a precise shot, and a precise shot, in turn, consists of several fundamental elements. We can identify eight main points that determine shot precision. Let us examine them one by one. The eight fundamentals of accurate shooting (the precise shot). These eight interconnected factors form the foundation of precision-fire technique. Regardless of the situation, the shooter must pay attention to each of them. These eight points form the basis for executing a precise shot. If you memorize them and use them consistently, they will help you conduct self-diagnostics and identify what needs improvement. Misses or issues can usually be linked to one of these points: for example, bullet spread on the target may indicate mistakes in grip or trigger control; a shift in the mean point of impact may point to errors in aiming; increasing tremors may signal fatigue and issues with stance or breathing, and so on. Understanding this, a shooter can analyze their actions after firing and make the right decisions for correction: return to basic stance exercises, work on smooth trigger control, adjust breathing, and so on.

Topic 3. Shooting Accuracy

Topic 3. Shooting Accuracy

Shooting accuracy is the most important characteristic of a shooter and the foundation of all firearms training. It is the element we always return to whenever issues arise in any other aspect of shooting proficiency. All other skills are “built upon” accuracy, which is why it must be mastered first. Our shooter training plan includes five core characteristics: shooting accuracy, target acquisition speed, fire delivery speed, shooter endurance, and maneuvering (both with fire and movement). However, training must begin gradually — with fundamental accuracy.

Topic 4. Target engaging speed

Topic 4. Target engaging speed

Fire acquisition speed is one of the most important characteristics of a shooter. It determines how quickly you can bring the weapon onto the target and deliver an accurate shot. In the hierarchy of shooting skills, it comes immediately after shooting accuracy, because the essence of this concept is not speed itself, but precision. In other words, it does not matter how fast you can miss — what matters is how fast you can hit accurately. Therefore, during speed-acquisition training, the primary focus always remains on accuracy. Only after accuracy is firmly established do we gradually add speed on top of it. In this training program, we will examine two preparatory exercises, two training exercises (each evaluated by one key criterion), and one qualification exercise that is assessed based on several parameters. Typically, the main criteria for training exercises are execution time or speed, while the qualification exercise is evaluated by both execution time and achieving a defined threshold level of accuracy.

Topic 5. Rapid Fire Speed

Topic 5. Rapid Fire Speed

In this topic, we examine the speed of rapid fire — a component of shooting training that many find interesting, yet it is far more challenging to develop than target acquisition speed. The foundation of high-rate accurate fire lies in fast and controlled trigger manipulation, which depends not only on technique but also on the shooter’s individual physiological capabilities. The instructor explains why improving rapid-fire speed is significantly more difficult: nerve conduction, limb mobility, and overall motor skills vary from person to person. Some individuals naturally demonstrate impressive results, while others, as noted in the video, may need years of training to reach even an average level. However, with the right approach and systematic exercises, this skill can be greatly improved.

Topic 6. Maneuver

Topic 6. Maneuver

Shooter training is often conducted in far-from-ideal conditions (rain, strong wind, etc.), as overcoming such obstacles makes a soldier stronger and more resilient. Today’s topic, “Maneuver,” covers a set of skills aimed at increasing a shooter’s effectiveness in combat. The concept of maneuver includes two interconnected components: maneuvering with fire and maneuvering as a shooter. Together, these elements enable the shooter to react quickly to changing situations, engage targets in various conditions, and maintain personal safety. Training objective: To develop the skills of maneuvering with fire and adjusting shooting positions in order to improve target engagement accuracy and enhance the shooter’s survivability on the battlefield. The topic consists of two parts: Fire maneuver – shifting fire (re-aiming the weapon) across different directions and distances, as well as adjusting the rate of fire. Shooter maneuver – the shooter’s actions to change their position or posture in order to maintain tactical advantage in combat.

Тема 7 Shooters endurance

In this section of the topic “Shooter Endurance,” we will discuss the ability to maintain accurate and effective fire under physical and psychological stress. You will learn why a standard range exercise does not guarantee success in combat conditions, and why a shooter’s mind must be prepared to engage targets while under stress, fatigue, and sleep and resource deprivation. We will examine how to train not only the body but also the nervous system in order to be ready for real combat. This episode is about developing the kind of endurance that distinguishes a true shooter.

Topic 8. Smart Shooting

Topic 8. Smart Shooting

“Smart Shooting” and the Use of Environment The final stage of the fundamental training level is dedicated to the intelligent use of the surrounding environment and the practical application of shooting theory. Instructors refer to this approach as “smart shooting” — the ability to shoot intelligently by applying ballistic knowledge and understanding how to work with cover. The goal of this section is to teach the shooter to go beyond basic skills, experiment with tactics, and understand bullet behavior under different conditions. This module covers the core principles of shooting from cover, the method known as “Somali shooting” (blind or instinctive firing), the use of ricochets to hit targets, and the effect of vegetation on bullet trajectory. These concepts help the shooter operate effectively in real situations, where conditions are far from ideal.
